Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a selection of frequently asked questions... Hopefully we have covered any you might have - if not drop us a message and we will answer them as soon as possible!
How long until I can collect my pottery?
When you join us for pottery painting, we will advise you of firing schedules at the beginning of your session - we normally say within 10 days. We need to have your piece dried from your painting session, clear glazed (where needed) then dried, prepared for the kiln and then fired through one of our kilns. With clay craft days the process is much longer - we need the pieces to dry fully and slowly to help prevent any cracks or breakages.
Is my piece food safe?
You will be advised with your choice of glazes whether your piece will be food safe. All of our g;azes that are widely available on our tables are food safe. Crystal glazes not so much. If you are painting a mug for example we will explain the correct glazes to use to ensure you can have your morning tea from a mug hand decorated by you!
Can my piece go in the dishwasher?
Although our kilns fire to around 1000 degrees we say 'hand wash until the novelty wears off'. A dishwasher is harsh and to ensure these pieces last for years to come the harshness of a dishwasher will deteriorate your piece sooner.
Is there a studio fee?
Not for your first time visiting. Most of our pieces are completed in one session - the larger pieces or more finely detailed pieces that take that bit of extra time we charge a £5 studio fee for your return this just helps with our overheads - rent, rates, lights, heating etc.
Can we hire the studio for a private event?
Yes! Drop us an email naomi@thepotteryshed.net
How can I amend my booking?
Drop us an email as soon as possible, we can try and fill your booking. Please see the cancellation policy for more details regarding deposits and bookings.
I have a problem with my piece of pottery.
As we explained in the beginning of your session we are dealing with organic materials and taking their temperatures to over 1000 degrees twice - once before you even get a stroke of glaze on! In the unlikely event you have an issue with your piece please contact us direct naomi@thepotteryshed.net including photgraphs. You need to inform us of any issues 3 days from point of collection - we encourage you to inspect any issues before leaving the studio.
Once your items have left the studio we assume no responsibility for it.
If we discover an issue with your piece before collection we will contact you directly.
